Students in the Employment Law Clinic work on employment cases in cooperation with the Legal Aid Justice Center and local attorneys.

UVa students create Engineering Teaching Kits that aim to excite middle school students about careers in engineering and technology. Once a kit is developed, UVa engineering students enter a classroom and teach the kit under the supervision of a middle school teacher and a graduate student from the UVa Curry School of Education. Engineering students receive feedback, make necessary alterations to the kit, and package the kit for distribution to middle school educators.

Girls Excited about Math and Science (GEMS) seeks to provide middle-school girls with math and science role models from the University of Virginia community. University students and professors act as mentors and promote the disciplines of math, science, and technology through hands-on activities. GEMS aims to encourage participants’ self-esteem and guide them toward future careers in these disciplines. Past experiments have included making paper airplanes, making silly putty, and exploring liquid nitrogen.

The Center for Global Health provides guidance and funding annually for 50 UVa students to conduct short and long-term multidisciplinary research and service-learning projects that address global health issues. CGH additionally promotes the engagement of UVa faculty and international mentors in the development of these projects.
