Programs

The Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra created the Preludes Program in 2000 to introduce youth to the instruments of the orchestra and bring innovation to traditional classroom studies.

The Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra introduces students to instruments, music, and performers. Young People's Concerts have long been a favorite way to introduce children to the experience of attending a live orchestral performance.

This program is offered with each in- house exhibit and features a discussion of Aboriginal art and culture followed by an art project that encourages children to experiment with techniques used by Aboriginal artists.

Cine Con Clase is a Web-based film resource for K-12 teachers and students of Spanish. Exciting film sequences assist educators and help students learn Spanish language, culture, and history. Short-term activities, class-length activities, and long-term activities are available online. Activities are peer reviewed for quality and adherance to SOLs.

Special Collections offers rich possibility for academic growth and exploration. Comprised of thousands of manuscripts, rare books, maps, and archives, the collection preserves the physical artifacts of our cultural, literary, and historical landscape. Classes held in Special Collections strive to acquaint students with this landscape and to provide maps to help navigate the past.

The UVa Office of Admission offers free college essay writing and financial aid information workshops to under-represented high school students and their parents.

College Guides act as mentors to students and create educational programming for high school and community college students and their families.

The Community Relations Office produces a guide to the services and programs U.Va. provides to Central Virginia residents. The Guide describes educational opportunities, medical programs, cultural activities, athletic events and special services.

Youth experience “a day in the life” of UVa students by attending academic, cultural, athletic and social events with university students on a regular basis.

This exhibit includes highlights of the most comprehensive collection of letters, documents, and early printings of the Declaration of Independence, including its first printing.
