The mission of Adopt-a-Grandparent is to create meaningful, one-on-one relationships with seniors in the Charlottesville community that will improve the quality of life of participants, both seniors and volunteers. We want to make sure the seniors in our community know how special they are to us!

electronic, searchable archive of
primary source materials at Virginia
repositories that relate to the Afro-
American experience.

This annual lecture and award ceremony
recognizes a nurse historian that has
contributed significantly to the
public's understanding of nursing
history and the development of the
health care system.

"America in the 1930s" offers a
substantial collection of film, print,
audio media from the Depression-era
U.S., as well as an archive of art
objects, achitecture, and design from
this historical period.

In cooperation with local doctors, the
UVa Health System offers free cancer
screenings to the general public each
year. Skin cancer screening takes place in May, and prostate cancer screening is offered
in September. The "Every Woman's Life"
program provides free breast and cervical cancer
screening to women who qualify based
on income and age.

The Benign Breast Disease Program
offers an integrated approach to the
evaluation and treatment of women with
benign breast disease, such as breast
nodules, fibrocystic breast disease
and cyclical or constant breast pain.
Care is coordinated utilizing
specialists within the Women's Place-
Midlife Health, the Cancer Center and
the UVa Health System.

The Big Sibling program seeks to
develop long-term relationships of
friendship and trust between community
volunteers and children that live in
the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.

in classrooms to work with children
from age four through sixth grade who
need assistance with specific skills
in a school setting.

information on the benefits of
breastfeeding and teaches participants
how to breastfeed.

Bridging the Gap (BTG) is a student-run program at the University of Virginia for refugee children resettled in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. BTG helps refugee youth develop the tools needed to obtain greater opportunities in US society through mentoring and tutoring services.
