The School of Architecture Public Service Fellowship Program provides fellowships for students interested in working in local design/environment/architecture-related nonprofit organizations.
The intent of the Public Service Fellowship Program is to provide a formal structure for students to gain experience in creative work in the community that is in line with their interests. Fellows are exposed to new challenges and methods of working, and are able to explore connections between the research interests they pursue at school and existing community needs. Through public service, students apply their skills and knowledge to compelling social issues, gaining real-life experience in the process and broadening their conceptions of what professional practice can be. The program is also intended to enhance the relationship of the school to the outside world, the nonprofit organizations, and the members of the Charlottesville community.
