Sexual and Domestic Violence Services
(SDVS) educates students, staff, and
faculty at the University of Virginia
about intimate violence and its impact
on our community. We provide support
to survivors of these crimes, work to
strengthen the University’s responses
and policies so that all victims are
treated fairly and appropriately,
empower women to resist abuse, and
empower men to embrace their role as
allies in this work, so that the
violence comes to an end.
The purpose of Sexual and Domestic
Violence Services (SDVS) in the UVa
Women's Center is to educate students,
staff, and faculty at the University
of Virginia about intimate violence
and its impact on the community. We
provide support and advocacy to
individuals that have concerns about
sexual assault, dating/domestic
violence (battering), and stalking.
Our goals are to strengthen services
for survivors and the University of
Virginia policies and procedures that
address these issues. We offer public
events, publications, internship
opportunities, educational programs on
these issues. SDVS collaborates with
both the University and the greater
Charlottesville community in a variety
of ways. We also offer a 3-credit
course, "Gender, Violence, and
Society," through the Curry School of
Education. Our Handbook for Survivors
is available free of charge to any
survivor upon request.
